Book Review; The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

Hey everyone, As mentioned in my last post, I read alot of books over the Christmas holidays and this is one of them. I seen the trailer in cinema a few weeks ago [yes, there is a movie made, so read before you see!] and knew I had to read it. I borrowed it off my godmother, and after hearing numerous rave reviews I dived into the world of World War II. About the Book;

My Opinion; Wow. That's all I can say about this book. When I reflect on my experience reading it, I remember the beautiful way with words, in such a fluid manner. Not only is it well written, but the plot and characters are very likable. I was mentally transported to 1940's Munich, and although I'm unsure if every detail is historically correct, it gives that impression thoroughly. I learnt alot about the war throughout the book; it's as if the author had experienced the war himself. Liesel is a brave little girl, who's so mature for her age and we really see her develop as she gets older in the book. The Hubermann family, her foster family, may be a tad all over the place, but their kind actions to help a young Jewish man really made me like the book. The ending of this book nearly had me in tears- it ends so beautifully but quite sad. I honestly can't wait for the movie now, as the girl playing Liesel is exactly how I depicted her in my imagination. If you liked The Boy In The Striped Pajamas, you'll love this.

Simply because some parts of the book were a bit drawn out, and made my eyes skip over.
