The SS16 season of London Fashion Week took place at Soho rather than the usual Somerset House last week, and it was certainly a big change. I recently read an article by Sophie Milner for The Coven about street style, and the article focused a lot on the recent LFW shows. Although some may think little of it, the British Fashion Council's decision to LFW had a huge impact on the fashion industry, for bloggers, industry professionals and everyone else in between. The (brilliant) article in question not only discussed the visible lack of street style at London Fashion Week this year, but also the lack of interest from photographers. Over the past few years, street style has become one of the key sources of inspiration for fashion folk. If street style is dead, where will we move to find inspiration now?

The fashion industry is constantly changing. We've all heard the renowned Chanel quote- "fashion changes, but style remains the same". When we look back at different eras, we often associate it with the clothes worn back then, for example Dior's 'new look' during the 1950s, or 70s flares that are currently making a comeback. Said trends are often revived in years to come. Which led me to wonder- what will define 2010 onwards? In 2040, will people be wearing black skinny jeans or Zara shirts? Lace up heels and crop tops?

A lack of designers isn't the problem. Every day, thousands of upcoming designers work on new collections, and aim to improve the future of fashion. There are thousands more that would kill for the chance to have their collections shown at fashion week. The fashion industry may be fast paced and tough to work in, but it is exciting. So why do I feel like it's stuck in a rut? The creation of popular social media sites like Instagram and Twitter were, what I would call, one of the most recent changes to the industry- but that was over 5 years ago. Where are we going from there?

I'd really love to get people thinking and hear your thoughts on the subject- comment or tweet me where you think the future of fashion lies!

Where Does The Future Of Fashion Lie?

You may remember at the start of Summer I changed my hair up with TONI&GUY Clarendon Street* (if not, you can read my post here!). Well, this time I headed back to TONI&GUY but to their Malahide salon, for an Autumn/Winter shake up! I've had long hair for a good few years now but over the last few months, I'd been thinking of going a lot shorter. The ends of my hair were extremely dead and quite fine, so I knew going for the chop was the best decision to make! My colour had also faded a good bit from the sun and sea abroad. To sum up- my hair desperately needed help!

I headed out to Malahide for a cut and colour, and as usual, I'm absolutely in love with the result. The staff were extremely nice and really listened to what I was saying. First, Mary talked me through my colour- we decided to keep the lightness at the end of my hair but with a copper toner to warm it up for Autumn. I also went darker on top to add a bit of richness, as it was looking a bit dull. Next, Ciara went in with the scissors and I got over 3 inches cut off the ends, with some layers added in too!

I really can't recommend and thank the TONI&GUY Malahide* salon enough- in fact, it seems the entire TONI&GUY chain are just amazing! Each time I've gone, I've been treated so well and come out with healthy, happy hair. Shorter hair will also be so much easier to manage on early starts for college- I'm all about that low-maintenance look!

What do you think of my new look?

  1.  Wearing my Zara unicorn printed shirt for the first time, that my mam found for €3 in a charity shop! See it in my blog post here.
  2. The location where I was modelling for a photographer friend for a competition she was entering- I'll hopefully be able to share the images soon!
  3. Accepting my university offer- I'll be starting journalism in DCU (Dublin City University) at the end of the month. SO exciting!
  4. Celebrations in the form of Nandos with my mam after a day of shopping.. the best way to celebrate!
  5. Loved this beautiful red manicure and my tan for my debs (prom) by Vanity Rooms in Stepaside. I honestly can't recommend them enough, the staff are so lovely and both my manicure and tan lasted a week!
  6. My hair and makeup for my debs- I wanted to go for an old Hollywood look, and I was delighted with my makeup by Urban Decay.
  7. .. and my debs dress! I bought it in Folkster months ago but it's now my favourite thing in my wardrobe.
  8. The ultimate post prom cure- Dominos pizza. 'Nuff said!
  9. Sharing my favourite piece from the Heatons AW15 press day- I absolutely loved that coat!
  10. A quick #FromWhereIStand shot on my way to work. The Penneys flats can be seen in my latest blog post, they're so comfortable!
  11. On the same day as Heatons I headed to the Warehouse Autumn/Winter press day, and these silver platforms caught my eye.
  12. Shooting some outfit posts at the Irish Museum of Modern Art. The grounds there are so beautiful!

White shirt. Boyfriend jeans. Black blazer. Three pieces, that I personally believe, are wardrobe staples. In a bidding to add more staples to my wardrobe, I picked up these boyfriend jeans not too long ago from New Look. I'm starting college/university at the end of the month, and let's be honest, I haven't got the money to fork out on a new outfit every day. To save money and time, I'm only going to buy basic pieces that I know I can rewear over and over again! I've styled these three staples with a bright red lip and bag, but the best thing? They can all be worn separately too! I've already worn this shirt with a printed maxi skirt during the Summer, and I just know I'll find even more ways to wear it this season too...

Shirt- Zara
Jeans- New Look
Blazer- Penneys/Primark (old)
Bag- a boutique in Lisbon, Portugal!
Shoes & earrings- Penneys/Primark

September Wishlist

This month's wishlist features a combination of high end and high street pieces- working in a designer consignment shop has really opened my eyes to a lot of expensive pieces! As Winter approaches, I'm lusting after lots of leather and chunky knits. I lost my trusty leather jacket last week, so I'm on the hunt for a new one- this Acne studios one is the dream. As I'm starting college at the end of the month, a MacBook Air would be extremely useful (and for blogging too) so that's the first thing I'll be saving up for this season!
