Book Review; Allegiant by Veronica Roth [& meeting the author/book signing!]

11.22.2013

Hey everyone,

After thoroughly enjoying writing my first book review [which you can read here]- it seems even the author enjoyed my review, as I got a tweet back from her, yay!]. I've decided to make this a reoccurring feature, and the next book I'm featuring is another dystopian novel; Allegiant, the third and final book in the Divergent trilogy by bestselling author Veronica Roth. I absolutely loved the first two books, Divergent and Insurgent, so as you can imagine I was immensely excited for the release of Allegiant. Better yet, I found an opportunity to meet the author, which I'll share more with you below!

About the Series;
The Divergent trilogy follows Beatrice 'Tris' Prior in a futuristic Chicago, where society is broken up into 5 groups or factions- Abnegation [the selfless], Dauntless [the brave], Amity [the happy], Erudite [the smart ones] and Candor [the honest]. However Tris later finds out that she doesn't belong in just one of these factions- she's different. The series follows her journey to find out the truth about herself, and whats behind the fence. Throw in a handsome male [Four] and you get lots of drama!

About the Book;

My Opinion;
Two words- absolutely brilliant. I still can;t get over that the author of this book is at the tender age of 25 years old. This book defied all my expectations of how the series would end, but it was a gripping finale overall. It was amazing, [and slightly confusing at first] to find out what was behind the fence after all that time, whilst also meeting new characters and seeing the current characters develop. I found whilst reading the Divergent trilogy that I too felt brave. It made me realise that even everyday actions require courage. I don't want to give too much away, so I'll leave you with this; keep tissues on hand. I'm not ashamed to say I cried towards the end of this book. It was so sad, yet so so beautiful!

Rating;
5/5!

Meeting the author, Veronica Roth;
When I seen online that Veronica herself would be hosting a fan event and signing in Easons O'Connell Street, Dublin, I was elated. I had actually gotten my sister hooked on the series too, so we booked a pair of tickets straight away. I had such an amazing day! I met up with some friends/fans of the book I had met on twitter, and we all sat together during the Q&A and reading of an extract not in the book. I had made Veronica a poster, so when I went to get my book signed, she was delighted to receive it and actually posted a picture of it on her Instagram that evening [eeeek!!].  Her assistant took a picture of my nails too, as I had painted them with symbols from the book, and we all waited around to get a group picture at the end which was totally worth it. I had an unbelievable day that I will never forget.

Have you read the Divergent series? Will you be reading Allegiant?
P.S- the movie of Divergent is out in cinemas next March, starring Shailene Woodley & Theo James.

Speechless. haha, Lots of love, Lauryn from http://funfairsandfairydust.blogspot.co.uk/ xxx
