My Love Affair With Fashion

1.31.2015

Hey everyone,

Other than my friends, family and food, there is nothing I am more passionate about than fashion. I am hopelessly in love with it. My love affair with fashion started many years ago, I'll tell you that! As a child I loved dressing up in my mum's "grown up" clothes with my sister. We would organise fashion shows, and parade about the sitting room like princesses in our best finery.

As I grew older and the teenage years began, my infatuation with fashion intensified. After beginning to get fed up of my hobby as a dancer after 10 years, I was at a bit of a loose end. It was then that I started a blog on a whim. Ever since then, my personal style has grown- as has my knowledge of the fashion industry. When I first started blogging, I was a 14 year old girl that was still trying to find my own sense of style. I was tempted to wear the clothes that all my friends did, but when I did, I didn't feel like "me". That's the best thing about fashion- we all have our own unique sense of style. As Coco Chanel famously said, "fashion changes but style remains the same". Although trends come and go like seasons, our own identity and preferences remain. I now know that I wouldn't be "me" without the clothes that I wear.

Don't get me wrong- I may love fashion, but I'm not a slave to it. I don't participate in all the latest trends or 'fads' although I do take inspiration from them, and the world around me- whether its books, art or history. I also don't believe that you need to spend a lot of money to look good either. Its no lie that I'm a huge fan of vintage clothing and thrift shops. I love mixing vintage items with the high-street for a modern twist. That said, give me a pair of Louboutins any day and I wouldn't complain!

They say it's a great thing when a hobby turns into a job, and maybe I'm aiming too high, but that's what I'd love to do. I spend 90% of my time thinking about fashion, after all! On the streets, I'm wondering where strangers got their shoes. At home, I'm constantly thinking about what to wear next. Heck, even in school I'm lusting after some of the teachers handbags. I can't escape it!

Have you got a love affair with fashion too? Tell me where it all began in the comments below!

  1. Love your post Rachel! I can definitely relate to lusting after my teachers' handbags! My business teacher has the prettiest Michael Kors bags which leaves us all literally crying as they're so flawless. Enjoyed your post, well done! x

  2. You are the Irish version of me haha! I love your style so much :D
I've always loved clothes too, in a weird way as I was quite a tomboyish outdoorsy kid but have always made a big deal of what I wear. I remember exactly what I wore on virtually every occasion throughout my life, it's really weird!
I totally get you about not wearing the same as your friends too - so many teenagers follow the same formula that it's great to be that bit different! People admire you for it :) You ever asked a stranger in the street where their shoes are from? *No shame in admitting that I have many times haha*
You just wait til you get to college and without a uniform, there's endless outfit peoplewatching to be done, not just the teachers anymore! I realise that sounds so sad haha but I think you get me :)
